Grandparents Day

Welcome to Grandparents Day this has been a national institution in America since the 70's. Started by Marian McQuade after discovering the reality of huge numbers of lonely elderly people left in nursing homes. National Grandparents Day is celebrated every year on the first Sunday after Labor Day. This falls on September 11th this year 2011. The elders of yesteryear let's honor them and utilise their experiences and wisdom.

Grandmas have discovered that when a baby cries they are communicating and talk back to them. They soothe and comfort the little soul and always think they're the most beautiful and clever baby on the planet.

Grandparents Rap

It's Grandparents' Day and we're here to say,
"We love our Grandparents in a major way."

So sit right down and take a seat,
And we'll put on a show that can't be beat!

Some Grandparents are skinny. Some eat a lot.
Some are funny. Some are not.

Some short, some tall, some big, some small.
It doesn't matter. We love them all.

Nobody can do for little children what grandparents do. Grandparents sort of sprinkle stardust over the lives of little children.

Grandma with her magic kiss,
and Grandad with his big strong arms,
Make a special place for weekends visits
when they take us to their farm.

They make us special lunches
and cuddle us up real tight;
We talk about all the things we want to
and they love us with all their might.

We giggle and can get dirty
splashing around in lots of mud;
It doesn't matter as it washes off
we can even play with all the suds.

We love them very much you know
and tell them sometimes too;
We ought to tell them so much more
I think I will - Don't you!!

Grandparents bestow upon their grandchildren
The strength and wisdom that time
And experience have given them.

Grandchildren bless their Grandparents
With a youthful vitality and innocence
That help them stay young at heart forever.

Together they create a chain of love
Linking the past with the future.
The chain may lengthen,
But it will never part…

A grandmother who’s special
Who’s caring and sincere.
Who’s always took good care of me
And always brought good cheer.
A grandmother who’s loving
Who’s patient and kind.
Who’s always made me smile
And always on my mind.
A grandmother who’s sweet
Who’s gentle and polite.
Who’s always made me laugh
After a scary night.
You’ll always be the best
No matter where you are.
You’ll always be in my heart
And in God’s hands..
“I Love You Grandmother”

Children are a blessing sent from God above
For us to care and nurture and most of all to love.
God calls us to be parents and gives us all the tools
And when we feel like giving up, our strength He will renew.
Children are a gift from God that He so freely lends
To make it through the childhood years, on Him we must depend.
He must have a presence, you see it must take three
The parents, child and Christ at the center to be a family.
From childhood days to a child full grown
Their joys and hurts are a parent's own.
Times of joy and laughter and those times of tears
The times spent raising a child are surely the best of years.
There comes that time in life when a child will leave the nest
We must send them off with love and a prayer and leave to God the rest.
We've have shared the Word of God, we've taught them right from wrong.
Now it's time to let them go and let them write their song.
The faith instilled, the examples lived, and the lessons taught
All gifts that we've given our child, which will never be forgotten.
There are many paths a child can take, right or wrong will remain unknown
But rest assured that in the end, they all lead back to home.

When it's our time to be a Grandma and we have learnt all of the above,
This is when our soul expands and we give them so much love;
It feel so different somehow and very, very deep
but we know that their special love for us, is ours alone to keep!
